GUIDELINES
The Decatur
Re-Leaf Tree Replacement Program is an all-inclusive program for
replenishing Decatur’s tree population.

or have been removed as a safety precaution. This program will also
include all trees that have been planted by the Parks & Recreation
Department, Memorial Trees and trees donated to Decatur Parks &
Recreation by private or corporate donation and planted in open
areas designated by Decatur Parks & Recreation where there are no

Department
TREE INSTALLATION
The Parks & Recreation Department currently has two Horticulturists
and has a consulting contract with an Urban Forestry and Arborist
Specialist. Any Trees that are planted through the Tree Replacement
Program will be installed after consulting with the Parks &
Recreation Department, so that areas can be maximized by determining
proper tree planting locations, proper tree species and varieties,
soil types, obstructions and utilities.
Trees will be
planted on public lands during an appropriate time of the year by
trained Parks & Recreation Department staff members. Planting Time
will be between November 1st – February 28th
of each year. Quantity of trees planted and locations will be
determined by the Parks & Recreation Department.
PRIVATE PROPERTY
OWNERS
City of Decatur employees cannot plant trees on private property,
however, if an individual would like to plant a tree on their
property and desires that their tree be included in the Tree
Replacement Program inventory with recognition given to the owner,
he or she may contact the Parks & Recreation Department. If
requested, Decatur Parks & Recreation will also provide assistance
to homeowners in selecting a tree species or variety that best suits
your area and offer suggestions of where to plant the tree. The
property owner will assume all responsibility and care of any tree
planted on private property.
DONATIONS
Tree donations are welcomed and encouraged by any group, business or
individual Resident.
Donation of specific tree varieties and sizes will be subject to
approval by the Parks & Recreation Department. Residents of Decatur
can make individual donations or can make donations through their
local district association, such as, Friends of Delano Park, Albany
Historical District Association, Old Decatur Historical District
Association, Friends of Frazier Park or other appropriate
associations. Corporate and Memorial donations can also be made with the same
approval procedure. Please contact your local district association
or the Parks & Recreation Department for more information prior to
making a donation. Contact links can be found on the Decatur ReLeaf
home page.
The City of
Decatur reserves the right to remove or plant trees within
Right-of-Way City property.
In the event that undesired or unwanted plants or trees are
installed on City property without approval of the Parks &
Recreation Department, the City reserves the right to remove all
plants or trees from City property, if deemed necessary. (see City
of Decatur Urban Forestry Ordinance #98-3436A)
