Beautification Nominations

Now through May 1st, the Department of Landscape and Beautification is accepting nominations for 2011 Beautification Awards.  From large elaborate landscape designs to quaint container displays, the department has an award for virtually all properties.

Linda Eubanks, Landscape and Beautification Department Director said, “You can show your support of one of the many  outstanding properties in Decatur by nominating them  for a Beautification Award.  It is very easy to complete a Nomination Form and return to the Beautification Department by the first of May.  The property might be your church, your favorite restaurant or a pretty container in our downtown area deserving this recognition. The Beautification Department will also be looking for the “best of the best” to receive the John Cook Sr. Steward of Spring Award.”

A judging committee from outside the city will evaluate each nominee based on the property's design, construction, plantings maintenance and litter control. Properties must score 95 out of 100 to earn an award.

The annual contest is open to the following categories: churches; commercial; container beauty; hotels, restaurants, clubs; financial / banks; subdivision, apartments or condos; government.

Winners display a beautiful Beatification Award sign on their property for one year and automatically are entered into the competition the next year, though it does not give them a better chance of winning again.

"They have to keep up the work they did when they originally won the award," said Linda Eubanks, Landscape and Beautification Department director.

For more information, contact Eubanks at 341-4776, or to download a nomination form, visit decaturalabamausa.com click on the Beautification Department.

Send nominations to Decatur Beautification, 1802 Central Parkway S.W., Decatur, AL 35601 or fax them at 341-4779.
