John Paul Marusak


 

 

Mr . John Paul Marusak, died Monday, June 13, 2011.  He was born May 19, 1944, in Hazelton, PA., to John and Margaret Marusak. John dedicated 21 years to the City of Decatur. He began his career as a park ranger at Point Mallard Park while attending Athens State University. Upon graduation, John became the supervisor of marketing for the City of Decatur until he retired in 2006. John also spent 25 years in the radio broadcasting industry doing various broadcasts including Decatur High School football. John was a veteran of the USAF having served as a dental technician.

Foremost, his family and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved St. Luke United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Finally, he enjoyed all sports, most notably, Crimson Tide football and golf.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn; one son, Steven Long; three daughters, Michelle Woods, Kelly Collier and Nancy Smith; seven grandchildren, Christopher Long, Stephanie Hampton, Jonathon Long, Jacob Woods, Clayton Woods, Anna Woods and Kala Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren.
