Kawa Shi Judo Club

The Kawa Shi Judo Club held a grappling fun match Saturday at the T. C. Almon Recreation Center. We had clubs from Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee come to compete in a format in which Martial Arts like Judo and Jujitsu could fight under common rules with a traditional "gi" division and a no gi divsion.

The fighters, (male and female) ages ranged from 7 yrs old up to 55 years old.

We have plans for an AAU sanctioned tournament in late September in which we will be introducing "Free style" Judo. If our plans work out we hope to host a couple of tournaments a year and perhaps a state championship.

The Kawa Shi (Japanese for "River City") Judo club practices at the Decatur Youth Services boxing gym on Wilson Street on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights 5:30 to 7:00 and is open to kids, teens and adults.
