You must meet the following requirements
in order to participate in the course:
1. You must be at least 15 years old; 16 to be employeed with Parks & Rec.
2. You must be able to pass the following pre-course:
a. 300 yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed.
b. Tread water for 2 minutes without support and without stopping. Only legs can be used, hands should be placed under the armpits, the
head must remain above the surface of the water.
c. (Complete in 1 minute 40 seconds) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Surface dive, feet-first, to
a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands
holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to breath. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
3. Course requirements
a. Attend all scheduled classes
b. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities
c. Pass the written exam with a score of 80 or higher
