Become a Lifeguard

Training Information

To become a lifeguard with Decatur Parks and Recreation, you must first complete a lifeguard course. We offer the American Red Cross course which teaches candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.

To enroll in the lifeguarding course, you must be at least 15 years of age before the last scheduled class session. To become an employee of Decatur Parks and Recreation, you must be at least 16 years of age.

*There will be a class in June for anyone wanting to work for DPR. Date and Times to be announced. Application are accepted at the Aquadome Pool.

If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard for Decatur Parks, please complete and turn in an application for employment. Interviews will be conducted at which time you will be assigned a date to come in and do the pre-course evaluation. Everyone who passes the pre-course will then take the lifeguard training course.
