EGGstravaganza was a huge success, in terms of the dedication of the organizers to brave the looming weather which sought to literally dampen the event, but especially in terms of the overall goal of bringing together thousands of children eager to express their joy and enthusiasm! Parents, too, were excited with all the positive energy and the laughter and smiles!
Our sponsors, Merchant’s Food Service, Pepsi, WHNT, Clear Channel, 100.9 The River radio, Decatur Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Epic Church, and the Decatur Fire Department were eager to join the event and Decatur Parks and Recreation is appreciative of their support!
The foyer to the Ingalls Pavilion was packed with participants nearly thirty minutes before the start time of 10:00 a.m. with an overflow of about fifty more out the front door!
An egg coloring demonstration and contest, an Easter Bunny accompanying children for pictures, booths displaying the services of vendors, various games, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy along with other splendid home-made refreshments and live musical entertainment made for a festive occasion bringing countless positive comments!
The display of eggs which covered the grass on the Pavilion’s west side, hand-placed and dropped by the Decatur Fire Department, was one of the highlights of the morning and brought children and adults together in a cooperative effort to collect as many eggs as possible and then open them for the surprise inside.
Organizers have estimated that the four-hour event welcomed more than 7,000 patrons, well over the attendance expected! The staff of Decatur Parks & Recreation were attentive to every item which made for a smooth operation- especially since the evening before ended around 1:00 a.m. with the Pavilion hosting a high school prom!
THANKS to everyone for their support, encouragement and participation!!
