SoulStock

Radio personality Rick Burgess of the Rick and Bubba Show is slated to be the guest speaker at the 2012 SoulStock, a free contemporary Christian music worship festival. Along with a heartening testimony from Burgess, the day-long event is filled with performances from eight Christian artists. This year’s festival is set for May 21 at Point Mallard Park in Decatur, Ala.

SoulStock’s mission is “To plant the seed of Jesus Christ in the hearts of our youth and to promote a spirit of unity among all who put their trust in Him.” The day is filled with uplifting performances by Christian artists and inspiring testimonials. Gates open at noon with live music gearing up at 12:30 p.m. The event typically concludes around 11 p.m.

“SoulStock started as a way to reach the youth through means important to them – food and music,” said Phillip Presley, president of SoulStock.  “The first event attracted approximately 175 guests as well as the attention of different churches across north Alabama.  SoulStock consistently has had some of the biggest names in contemporary Christian music and outstanding speakers who offer inspiring testimonials.”

Along with Rick Burgess, the 2012 entertainment line-up includes Owing Adam, Following Winter, Steel Fading, Soul Sister Sally, John Waller, Chasen, Red, and Fireflight. Modern rock band Fireflight was a GMA Dove Awards nominee in 2009 and 2010 and recently received its first GRAMMY nomination in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category.

After 11 years on the campus of Athens State University, SoulStock relocated to the Spirit of America Field in Point Mallard Park. The free event is supported by about 50 businesses and 47 churches across all denominational lines from North Alabama. Approximately 15,000 attended in 2010.

Admission is free. Donations of canned goods to benefit local food banks are encouraged. For more information on SoulStock, visit its web site at www.soulstock.com.
