Senior Exercise - A low impact class designed to help seniors with strengthening endurance, flexibility and balance. There is a brief warm-up period which includes walking and a time to get to know one another with coffee before class begins. There is no charge. Mon, Wed, Fri, 9 - 10 am.
Fitness Club - Being a member of the Fitness Club gives access to a variety of exercise equipment - stationary bicycles (upright or recline), tread mills, an elliptical, a universal weight set, free weights and a variety of weight lifting equipment. Age 19 years and up - $60 per quarter or $20 per month. Couples - $90 per quarter or $30 per month. Family Pack (children over 14 years) - $120 per quarter. Baton - The Dixie Darlings were formed in 1973 when parents saw a need for baton instructions for their daughters. They asked Vicki Linley to coordinate the program. With an enrollment of 10 girls (all under the age of 10), Vicki began the first class at Austinville Playground. In 1984, the baton twirlers performed before President Ronald Reagan during his visit to Decatur for the Spirit of America Festival. Today, the classes are conducted at T. C. Almon Recreation Center. Participants range in age from kindergarten through high school with an average enrollment of 35. Registration and classes are concurrent with the school calendar year, with no classes conducted during the month of December. Classes are held each Thursday with Beginners starting at 4:00 pm and Intermediate 1 at 4:30 pm and Intermediate 2 at 5:00 pm. The twirlers march in the Decatur Christmas Parade and Decatur Veteran's Day Parade, and conclude their year with a recital at the conclusion of the final session.
Healthy Lifestyle - This is a physical fitness program which involves activities such as basketball, weightlifting and racquetball. It's available mid-day and in the evening. Mon thru Friday 12:00 pm - 1:00 p m // Mon, Tue, Thu 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm // Fri 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Young Piccaso's Watercoloring Art Class This class is designed to teach some of the fundamental techniques of watercolor including the basics of drawing, landscapes, still life, and abstracts.Classes held each Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 am – 11:30 am in the T. C. Almon Craft Room. $20 per month ($10 for seniors).
Archery- Concentrated course covering basics, and suitable for those who have never shot an arrow, or those with some previous experience. Class covers: Eye Dominance, Archery Safety Rules, Warm-Up Exercises, Archery Tackle Sized to Archer (all equipment supplied), Proper Shooting Techniques, Basic Steps, Grouping, and Consistency and Scoring. Hooked On Fishing - Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) - Teaching the Basic fundamental and preparation of fishing and dealing with the youth and peer pressure that could lead to drug use. The class will also, prepare the student to be able to know the proper way to set up a rod and reel, the different ways to tying knots for the hook, and casting a line to a designated target. Along with all the thing previously mentioned aboved there will be life skill activities to help the participant to be able to avoid the use of drugs. Class begans Sept. 13 thur Nov. 3, 2011.
PEHRL Homeschool Program - Physical Education Health Recreation Leisure (PEHRL) is a program designed with a variety of fun activities such as Archery, Water Coloring, Kids Fit, Sports Fit and Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs. Class will be offered at all 4 recreation centers at different times and different days.
