Trunk or Treat

As the wind started to howl and the moon shined brightly, all manner of zombies, mummies and ghosts began making appearances at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex. The 2012 Trunk or Treat was held on October 26th and it brought out superheroes, cowgirls, pirates and all sorts of other things. The Beautification Department, Police Department, Fire Department, among other city departments came out to support the event; along with various businesses around the valley like Bunge, ULA and McCurry Motors just to name a few.

It was fantastic to see the 1,100 or so participants go down the line to collect candy and then down the next line to play a variety of carnival style games that the Parks & Recreation Department provided for the evening. There were approximately a ton of canned goods collected at the gate that were donated to the local CCC in downtown Decatur.

The only downfall of the entire evening was that the wind was howling enough that the Trunk or Treat event wasn’t able to incorporate the Movie in the Park edition of Monster House. However, that didn’t seem to deter the crowds from continuing on with the festivities that were found at the fall event.

The winners of the costume contest were Arlie the Cowgirl (age 0-4), Ethan the Mad Hatter (age 5-8) and Marquez the Gangster (age 9-12). The Best Decorated Space winners were McCurry Motors (business division) and the Hemrick Family (private division).  It was a hard decision for the judges as everyone did such a fantastic job on their costumes and decorating their spaces.

Decatur Parks & Recreation would like to thank everyone that came out to the 2012 Trunk or Treat event. It is because of the Decatur citizens that they are able to provide such events and keep them going every year. Remember to save the date for next year as Trunk or Treat will be returning to the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex on October 25th.
