Why a Softball League

The benefits of a company, church, or a group of people forming a team and joining the softball league at Wilson Morgan Park are immeasurable. Softball offers a great blend of recreation including physical activity, community, team building, and general fun and entertainment; all of which make the game so enjoyable! The social interactions and psychological benefits of softball alone are enough to make participation in the league a PLUS for anyone!
The City of Decatur Parks and Recreation runs a Summer Softball League and a Fall Softball League at Wilson Morgan Park. The fall league season begins in September and the summer league begins in April.
The leagues consist of Men’s and Women’s Church leagues, Men’s and Women’s Independent leagues, Men’s Industrial leagues, and an independent Co-ed league. The leagues offer a great variety of teams and talent levels in every category. Our league has enjoyed success for a countless number of years and we continue to welcome an active Decatur community of area teams at various skill levels. Many area teams continue to come back each season to participate which is proof of our well structured league and the enjoyment that it brings to the teams and their participants.
The entry fee for the fall softball season is due by July 30th, and the late the late fee is due by August 6th. The fall league consists of a 9 game season with a double elimination tournament to end the season. The entry fee for spring is due by March 4th, with the option of a late fee due by March 11. Summer softball consists of a 12 game season also with a double elimination tournament that ends the season. Trophies are awarded to the Champion and Co-Champion of both the league and the tournament.
The Decatur Parks and Recreation softball league is affiliated with the Amateur Softball Association with some local league rule exceptions. Two umpires are used per game. Games are held to a 1 hour time limit. The first game of the night begins at 6:15pm and the last game time starts at 9:15pm. Individuals who are looking to join a team may be placed on the free agent/player list. Player information is made available to coaches on request. Feel free to contact Wilson Morgan Park to get placed on the free agent list at (256) 341-4810.
