The Open Cup

Eight countries and thirteen states were represented in this year’s Open Cup, the second straight year hosted at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex.

Jack Allen Recreation Complex Supervisor David Wisdom with the            2013 Bermuda U14 National Academy Team.

The 2nd and 3rd tier levels of play (U19-17, U16, U15, U14, U13, U12, U11, U10, U9) were at a premium with top flight competition providing a great mix of play. The Open Cup in Decatur, Alabama, is one of many ongoing Premier Soccer Services programs or events including the Caribbean Girls Legacy Cup, Consultant for US relations with FESA, Consultant for US relations with CF Monterrey Rayados Fuerzas Basicas program and Consultant for US relations with CF Pachuca.  Decatur, Alabama, is proud to participate with Premier Soccer Services in this outstanding soccer event!

In addition to Jack Allen Recreation Complex other locations included Wilson Morgan Soccer Field, Austin High School, Brookhaven Middle School, Oak Park Middle School. More than eight thousand were in attendance over the three-day tournament.

Four days prior to the Open Cup the Jack Allen Complex hosted a five-day Morgan County High School Soccer Tournament with a one-day postponement due to inclement weather. Despite the fields being saturated from heavy rains, and a power outage the day before from severe thunder storms, Decatur Parks and Recreation maintenance crews labored to prepare the Complex for the Open Cup. Their determination to provide a top quality facility despite this hindrance was welcomed by countless comments from national and international visitors. First time visitors to the Complex expressed satisfaction with the obvious beauty of the Complex including the Southern hospitality of the Decatur and Morgan County area. Returning visitors expressed a similar satisfaction, with a tone of envy wishing their soccer players could enjoy such beautiful playing surfaces.

Following the Open Cup, there will be less than three weeks to prepare for the Alabama Youth Soccer Association Division II State Cup, May 3,4,5 and 10,11,12. That will be followed by the Decatur Youth Soccer league end-of-season tournament, May 18, and then the President’s Cup regional tournament hosting more than a dozen southeastern states.

Thanks to the support of the citizens of Decatur, Alabama, the Jack Allen Recreation Complex is a superior recreational facility!
